In the city center of Erfurt right behind City Hall next to the river Gera an office building with 4.500 m² of office space should be designed including an underground parking level for 170 cars. The new buildings´ difficult task was to mediate between the large volume of City Hall and the sourroundig medieval small scale buildings.

The concept uses a block-like structure wrapped around two inner elements - a little court-yard and a technical tower-structure hosting elevators, stair case and the environmental control systems. Although beeing a clear cut rectangular shape it reacts to and correpsonds with its sourroundings and develops lively sculptural variations.

The project intentionally places its modern architectural language in the sourrounding historic context: quality by contrast. At the same time it reacts to the specifics of its context on several levels: the reduction in mass appearance supports the relation to the small scale medieval buildings - the increased transparency ot its outer skin allows the interior to be seen through so that the street´s spacial boundary appears to be wider - rather in the depth of the building than at its outer front.

The roof plane became differenciated - the technical tower introduces a new high-light in the area - it supports orientation and corresponds with the tip of City Hall´s historic tower.
