MDR-EXTENSION.erfurt

The main broadcasting building situated in the EGA-gardens in Erfurt needed an extension - proportions and the glass appearance of the new buildings were developed to relate to the former glass halls of the historic EGA flower fair.

The extension consists of two pavillions on a joining underground parking level. Both pavillions have a central core with stairs, elevator and adjacing spaces - these cores of reinforced concrete are structurally connected with the parking level and serve as structural elements for the 3-story prefabricated steel and reinforced concrete structure.

The interior stair-case is the main circulation for the building - the adjacing walls are fair-faced concrete - the elevator is a free standig glassed in steel structure showing the elevator´s technical details. An overhead daylight illuminates the space during the day - at dark the elevator tower with its designed technical lighting serves as a dynamic high tech lighting for the stair.

To meet the reqiurements of the zoning regulations a cladding of printed glass paneling was used. It has a green horizontal linear pattern, that corresponds with the blinds of the same colour, which results in a flow of varied linear structure in the fassade. In addition the clear parts of the panels cover - altering from floor to floor - half a window plane, thus generating an additional haptic quality on the façades´ surface
