COURT CENTER.jena

The project is the result of the 1st price we won in a competition by the TERCON Immoblienmanagement GmbH. On a former military site just below the train station in Jena-West we placed these two block shaped buildings with a splended view over the hills of Jena.

The design reflects the the sourrounding rather small scale building pattern by splitting the masses into two slightly shifted pavillion buildings connected by an entrance hall that functions in two directions - towards the train station in the west and the main acces in the east. The two fold concept supports orientation in the complex by placing the different courts in each part.

Provincial Court, district court, attorney general and the district attorney Jena are located in this complex. The public spaces (court rooms, library, real estate recording office, surrogate court, cashier) are located in the ground and first floor with easy access through the entrance hall with an open stair.

The office spaces are located in the upper stories in two white block structures resting on reinforced concrete columns. Thus the building mass is reduced to these two white bodies with row windows, while the public areas in the first two floors is optically reduced with a glass façade suggesting openness and transparency of a modern jurisdiction.
